VPN Sync fails or times out

VPN Sync needs to reach a public IP geolocation service. A kill switch or firewall is the usual blocker.

Last updated:

VPN Sync calls a few public IP geolocation services to detect your VPN exit region. Some VPNs or firewalls block outbound requests to these services. Try temporarily disabling your VPN's firewall or kill switch. If the issue persists, use the Search City or Enter Coordinates tabs to set your location manually instead.

What to try

  1. Temporarily turn off your VPN's kill switch or built-in firewall, then run VPN Sync again.
  2. Check that your VPN allows outbound requests to IP geolocation services — some block them by default.
  3. If it still times out, set your location by hand from the Search City or Enter Coordinates tabs. VPN Sync is a convenience, not a requirement.
